Since user management is generally done at the Site Collection level, you'll find the FBA Pack menu items (both user management and email templates) in Site Settings of each site collection. Note that you do need to be a site collection administrator in order to see the menu items. The feature also needs to be activated on the site collection, if it hasn't been already.

I inherited a SP 2010 installation with the FBA pack installed and it's a little broken from what I can tell. The administrative pages are not available in Central Admin and I have no idea how/where the email templates are stored to edit those.

Can anyone provide a little assistance on where the email stuff is located?

There's an issue with your membership configuration on your test server. Check the membership provider settings and db connection string in your web.config. Also make sure, if connecting to SQL Server via windows authentication, that the app pool identity has db owner permissions on your aspnetdb database.

I have setup a new web site at my test server and added a blank SharePoint site.
I setup to allow anonymous login to the site.
I added the FBA settings in the web.config file.
I deployed then SharePoint 2010 FBA Pack to the new site.
I added the webpart "Membership Request", but it didn't work.

I got this message on the page with the Membership Request

Membership Request
A Membership Provider has not been configured correctly. Check the web.config setttings for this web application.

You would do 1 of two things:
Create a standard SharePoint page in a library with anonymous access, and add the web part to it. If you want to use it on multiple site collections, you would create a page on each site collection that you need a registration page.

Build an Anonymous Application Page and add the web part to it. In this case, the same page will be available on all site collections in SharePoint. Some info on creating an anonymous application page is here:

I the site is on the same web application, then yes, they will share the same database. If you use a separate web application, you can choose to use seperate databases, a single database, or a single database with multiple "ApplicationName's" (This acts like having separate membership databases live within a single database).

Even if they share the same database, you can still assign different permissions to users on each separate site.

Since the database is receiving the wrong name, it's definitely as issue on the server or the browser.

For the most part it seems to work on my side - I can create and edit users. I did manage to reproduce it in a certain circumstance:
Add the User
Edit the User
Click 'Delete'
Click Cancel -> Get the error.

In this case it has to do with the username being urlencoded - It appears to not do it properly. Since it sounds like you get it in a lot more places, it may be a separate issue for you, but i'll raise an issue for this to fix the urlencoding in a future version. The issue is here:

After the setup of the FBA site at my own test server I logged on using my client machine (Windows 7) and it worked fine.

Now I try to logon locally on the SharePoint server I cannot select between "Windows Authentication" and "Forms Authentication".
Nothing happens when I click on the down arrow

When I looked at the Sign In window the text looked big and ugly.

Solution: I changed the Zoom-level in Internet Explorer to 100% and login locally works fine!

The trace in SQL Server Profiler shows that the SQL get the wrong name.

It get Ã¥Ã¤Ã¶ÃÃÃÃ¼Ã instead of åäöÅÄÖüÜ

Who is responsible for this? SharePoint 2010? Internet Explorer?

When i click on the user Testing2 it worked fine (and SQL got the correct name).

I just tried creating a user on my side, copying the username and name from your post. That worked fine. Clicking edit on the user also brought up the edit page and I was able to edit and resave the user. As I mentioned in my earlier post, my aspnetdb database uses a SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS collation.

You may want to try running SQL Server profiler - that may give you an idea as to where the issue is occurring (ie is the wrong username being passed to the db? Is the right username being passed and the db isn't retrieving it?)

No need for a separate site, the membership request web part should work as is.

If the user is not being added to the Site Membership Review List, make sure that 'Review Membership Requests' is turned on in the FBA Site Configuration page.

The workflow is:
Review Membership Requests turned OFF:
User signs up with Membership Request web part
User receives approval email with username and password and login url

Review Membership Requests turned ON:
User signs up with Membership Request web part
User received 'Membership Pending' email
Administrator approves membership in Membership Review List
User receives approval email with username and password and login url

I asked the SQL manager to change the collation for the FBA database to Finnish_Swedish_CI_A_S, but it didn't help

The log contains only 3 lines about this

The collation for the databases at the SQL servers
SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS (user not found) the customer site.
Finnish_Swedish_CI_AS (working) my own test site.

Hi,

I'm able to add a user with a lot of accent characters.

User Name - Email Address - Full Name
åäöÅÄÖüÜ - bengt.nilsson@officeitpartner.se - åäöÅÄÖüÜ

When I click to edit I get "user not found"

I have a test environment with the same SharePoint (2010 + SP1 + some hotfixes).

It works fine having a FBA user with the same accent characters!

I'm able to login as åäöÅÄÖüÜ on both SharePoint servers.

About "Add the web parts to pages"

"There are three highly customizable web parts available: Membership Request, Change Password and Password Recovery. They must be manually added to the page you’d like to use them on:"

I created a subsite on the FBA site and added the webpart "Membership Request" to test it.

I filled in a test user in the request form and got the answer "Your registration request has been received."

The "Site Membership Review List" is empty.

When used the request form I was logged in as Administrator and new users cannot login...

Should I have a separate site for "Membership Request"?

Currently the email templates are stored at the site level, so if you use the membership request or forgot password web part, it will use the template from the site level The one issue is the membership review list - because the approvals/rejections happen on the site collection site level, it uses the templates from the site collection level. Unfortunately we're not currently tracking the site that the membership request was initiated from, so there's no way at the moment to use the correct site level template. We'll have to start tracking that in order to do this. I've raised an issue so that this can be addressed in a future release:

I suggest in the meantime you make the approval and rejection templates generic enough that they'll work for every site that you have.
