Upgrading a SharePoint 2007 website using the FBA to SharePoint 2010

Jan 16, 2012 at 10:49 PM

Hello, I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction on how to upgrade a website using the FBA for 2007 from this site to 2010 using the SharePoint 2010 FBA Pack? I have done many of the standard database attached upgrades, but am falling short on where to even begin. Any guidance or if anyone has done this and if you could share your findings - would be great!

I haven't done the upgrade, but I think the standard upgrade path should work. If FBA doesn't work after the upgrade, i'd just follow a guide to enable it, like this one:

If you're using the CKS solution for the FBA web parts in 2007, you'll have to remove it. And then just install the FBA pack if you'd like the management tools and web parts.

Ok, thanks! I did get the site over. Another question I have is do you think it would be ok to just do the database attached upgrade, convert to a claims based site, and run powershell to remove the feature once the web application is already on 2010? (I really do not have an option to remove the FBA stuff on the 2007 environment.) :(

By remove the feature, I assume you mean the CKS solution?I think that should be fine - i've had it installed on 2010 - It installs, it just doesn't work.  Again, i've never actually done it though, so I don't know for sure.

Ok - one other question. The 2007 solution had a sign in page I believe? Is there something in this pack that I am not seeing for signing in or changing the default sign in page?

Currently there are no web parts for signing in. I either use the default sign in page, or create a custom sign in page based on the default sign in page.

Dang, was afraid of that! Would you by chance have any sample code of the custom sign in page you have used?

As a matter of fact, I do. Check this thread:

You're awesome - thanks will take a look! I am having a heck of time figuring some of this out. My FBA user (who is one of the assigned site collection admins does not have any rights to the site settings, etc. no Site Actions what-so-ever.  :( *SIGH* I am pretty new to FBA as this is the only site we have that uses it, AD is so much easier. ;)

Well then, now's probably a pretty good time to plug my support plan :)

It will give you phone, email and screen sharing support, priority bug fixes and the plan can even be used to get custom development done - like your custom login page.
